Barbara was born in 1870. She was the daughter of Donald Gunn and Barbara Surman.
She was a schoolteacher in Mount Cole, Victoria in 1898.
She married Isaac Padgett on 29 March 1899 at 185 Lydiard Street, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.
They raised their three children at Braemore, Werribee, Victoria, Australia.
Barbara was a schoolteacher and a postmistress between 1900 and 1930.
Her husband died in 1937.
She passed away in 1941 at the age of 71.
MRS. BARBARA PADGET The sudden death of Mrs. Barbara Padgett, relict of the late Mr. Isaac Padgett, of Werribee South, who died in 1937, was a severe shock to relatives and friends when it became known that she had passed away on Thursday afternoon last. Mrs. Padgett, who was in her seventy second year, was born at Burrumbeet, near Ballarat, and came to Werribee in 1915 with her husband and family. The late Mrs. Padgett took an active interest in all activities at Werribee South, but was particularly interested in the work of the Presbyterian Church and the Women's section of the Country Party, of which she occupied the position of president for a time. Mrs. Padgett enjoyed fairly good health until about ten days prior to her death, when she complained of headaches. After taking a turn, she became unconscious about 9.30. a.m. on Wednesday and died at 2 p.m. the following day. Left to mourn their loss are the following members of the family : Barbara (Mrs. Bence), Norman, and Jean (Mrs. Gilmore).
The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, leaving her late residence, Werribee South, for the Werribee cemetery at 2 p.m. The coffin was borne to the graveside by Messrs. N. Padgett (son), K., W. and H. K. Padgett (nephews), while the pall was supported by Messrs. N. Gunn (brother), A. Bence (grandson), A. Gunn, D. Padgett (nephews), M. J. Padgett, H. C. Padgett (brothers-in-law), and G. Stuart and G. S. Gordon (Presbyterian Church) Rev. J. E. Smith, assisted by Chaplain Gilmour, R.A.A.F., (son-in- law), conducted the service at the graveside. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Nelson Bros., Williamstown.[1]
