He married Nancy Jean Carter on 24 January 1942, in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky. ^[2]

He and his wife may have served in the military. ^[3]

Maj. Thomas D. Gunning, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Carter of Erlanger, Ky., has been promoted to that rank at Bowman Field, Louisville. Je is the husband of Nancy Jean Gunning.

In 1940, he was enumerated in Chicago and had previously lived in Kankakee, Illinois. ^[4]
