DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Calvin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Calvin:
Lee or General Lee Gunter has been a dead end for 20 years. There is speculation that we have Native American ancestry, African American ancestry and who knows what else. My gr grandfather Crumwell would just say we were black dutch. I recently submitted a dna test so we will see what comes of that. I do know that the names of my gr grandfather and his brothers are in this one particular line of Gunters, and that this line also married into the Gantts which my gr gr grandmother is. I just can't get there from here yet. We also came from the same area as those Gunters and Gantts and we moved with them following turpentine.
I believe that Lee's real name was Calvin Lee Gunter and that his parents were Emery Gunter and Sarah Blackwell. Calvin did not appear but in one census, the 1880 census. This is a guess, but an educated guess. I found the other children and proposed parents in other censuses. I am still looking trying to unravel this mystery.
My dna results show no Native American or African American ancestry. On FTDNA I show up as West and Central Europe 66%, Scandinavia 17%, British Isles 15% and Jewish Diaspora 2%, My Ancestry results are a little different; England, Wales and Northwestern Europe 69%, Ireland and Scotland 28% and Sweden 3%. .
