Evening News (Sydney, NSW : 1869 - 1931), Friday 30 December 1887. ^[1] Extensive Bush Fire. - ONE MAN DEAD. TWO SEVERELY BURNED. [By Telegraph.] NARRABRI. - A fatal fire occurred at Edgeroi Station, thirty miles from Narrabri, on Wednesday evening. The glare was plainly visible from here. A strip of country, four miles long by seventeen broad, was burnt; all the fences were destroyed, and the homestead just escaped. One man, Harry Gunter, died, it is supposed, through heart disease, caused by over exertion in beating out the fire. Two more hands were badly burned. The fire is supposed to have been occasioned by lightning.

Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate (NSW : 1876 - 1954), Friday 13 January 1888. ^[2] A FATAL FIRE. - The Narrabri Herald has the following:- A bright glare in the sky on Wednesday night told a plain tale of fire somewhere in Killarney direction. News reached town yesterday that a large bush fire had broken out on Edgeroi, and had been with difficulty extinguished, the home-stead itself having a narrow escape from destruction. A considerable slice of country was burnt, which is roughly estimated at some four miles in length, by eight, or ten in breadth. It is reported that the fences were destroyed, and other damage done. All hands worked with a will. Two men got badly burned, while one, Harry Gunter, met his death, it is supposed from over-exertion with the wet bags.
