Commentary (By John Hammond?)

------

This Division of William Gurley's land was accompanied by a roughly drawn plat found in deed book (P-262, Anson NC). Here is my written description of information obtained from this record.

Situated on the south side and on the bank of Rocky River, there are four adjoining tracts. Henry Gurley drew the most westerly tract known as I. The other three adjoining tracts are William Gurley No. 2, John Lauhon No. 3, and William Gurley No. 4. William Gurley received the most easterly tract for 30 acres.

Just to the south west of this land, Drury Austin received No. 5 for 100 acres (with 70 acres added). To the south east of the four division adjoining the river, Benj. Thomas received No. 6 for 130 acres. Benj. Thomas's lot was adjoined to the west by Drury Austin's 70 acre addition. James Gurley received 125 acres (not numbered) and situated between Drury Austin's lot no. 5 and the Benj. Thomas No. 6 and Drury Austin 75 acre addition. James Gurley's tract is marked with a line through its middle and dividing the tract into seemingly two tracts. The name of James Gurley is written in the northern half, leaving the southern half blank. Could this have been Sanders Pools lot? If so, why was his name left out on the Division? The date for the division of William Gurley's land is found at the bottom of the Plat. The division occurred nearly ten years after the will of William Gurley was probated. Here is the date: July 1815. Then this Division of land was returned in open Court and ordered to be registered.

I doubt anyone would be married when they are 10 years (as we have William Gurley and birth of 1st child in 1758) old and have children within 2 years. I don't know what is incorrect be it the birth date or the marriage record or just the wrong person attached to some date. [CWA 27 May 2021]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
