Biography
Jonathan Willis Gurley was born December 10 1824 to Henry and Rebecca (Fenn) Gurley in Southampton Virginia
Jonathan attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia
Dr Gurley practiced medicine in Southampton Co until 1885 when he was elected to the House of Delegates 1885-1886. In 1856 he moved his family to Petersburg Virginia and they lived what came to be known as "the old Gurley farm The Gurley Farm was used by Union Forces as a hospital during the Civil War
In 1878 Dr Gurley and his wife Ann moved their family to Norfolk where he practiced medicine for the rest of his life . Dr Gurley passed away Dec 1988 much of his family is buried near him and Ann in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk Virginia

I thought the 1880 Census shown first on this info suggested there had been a son born around 1850 and he was the father of Georgia. The Book The History and Genealogy of the Gurley Family...By Albert Ebenezer Gurley shows the son with his father's name passed away the year he was born, there is a Jonathan W Gurley shown passing away in 1888 in the same cemetery as the rest of the Gurley family
