Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser Tuesday 27 August 1918, page 2 OBITUARY. Mr, Thomas J. Cambourne. General regret was experienced on Saturday morning when it became known that Mr. Thomas J. Cambourne, one of Narrandera’s old and most respected residents, had passed away at the age of 62 years. Mr. Cambourne had for some time been experiencing indifferent health owing to liver complaint, and recently his condition had been such as to cause his family and friends much concern. He however bore this illness with the greatest fortitude, and always had a cheerful word for those around him. He passed peacefully away at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Mr. Cambourne joined the railway service as a fettler over 40 years ago, and after three years was promoted to the position of ganger. In 1897, while stationed at Table Top, near Albury, he received the offer of promotion to the position of sub-inspector of permanent way with headquarters at Narrandera, which offer he accepted, and resided here with his family until his death. Owing to the nature of his duties and his frequent absence from town, the deceased was unable to take an active part in public affairs; but he always displayed a keen interest in all movements for the welfare of the town and extended to them his moral and financial support. During his long residence here he made many friends, and at all times proved himself staunch in his friendship. As a railway servant he carried out his duties faithfully, and in doing so earned for himself the respect of his superiors and in high esteem of those under his charge. About 15 months ago Mr Cambourne was retired on a pension, having reached the age stipulated in the railway regulations. His retirement was the signal for his friends and well-wishers to demonstrate their goodwill, and he was accordingly entertained by his old comrades in the railway service, and members of the public, and presented with suitable tokens of their esteem. The deceased leaves behind him a widow and family of six daughters and four sons. The sons are Robert (on active service), William, James, and John, and their daughters, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Griffiths, Edith, Betsy, May, and Minnie. The deceased was a native of England. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, when a large number of deceased's friends followed the remains to their last resting place. The Rev. Canon Rawling officiated at the grave side. The members of Lodge Leopold attended the funeral in regalia, and read their impressive service over the grave.

Narrandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser Tuesday 28 January 1947, page 2 Mrs, Anne Wilmore Cambourne The death occurred at her home, Cadell Street, Narrandera, on Thursday last of one of the oldest and most respected residents of the district in the person of Mrs. Anne Wilmore Cambourne, widow of the late Mr. Thomas J. Cambourne, at the great age of 91 years. Mrs Cambourne was born at Gundaroo near Yass, and came to Narrandera 1897: Mr. Cambourne was for many years permanent way inspector at Narrandera, and prior to coming to Narrandera, he was stationed at Table Top. There his wife was also in the employ of the Department as a gatekeeper. During the period of the First World War Mrs. Cambourne rendered much work in an unobtrusive way for the Red Cross and other patriotic bodies by making clothing, jams, etc, and her work in those days was much appreciated. She was possessed of a retiring disposition, even in her young days, but was well liked by all who knew her. Deceased is survived by a family of three sons and six daughters. The sons are William (Marrickville), John (Albury), and Robert (Narrandera). The daughters are Miss Edie Cambourne (Narrandera), Minnie (Mrs. J. Crump, Canterbury), Maud (Mrs. G. Griffith, Gosford); Betsy (Mrs. J. Warner Mt. Druitt), Oddie (Mrs. Fred Larkin, Wodonga), Amy (Mrs. Evans, Lidcombe). She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. The funeral moved from St. Thomas' Church on Friday afternoon for the Church of England portion of the Narrandera cemetery. Emeritus Archdeacon Rawling, an old friend of the Camboume family, officiated. Mrs. F. Lindley had charge of the funeral arrangements.
