Charlotte was born in early 1830 in Ellington, Northumberland, England. She was the daughter of George Gustard and Elizabeth Riddle. She was baptised on the 11th April 1830 in Woodhorn, Northumberland ^[1]. She lived with her parents as a young girl ^[2], but then worked as a servant for her uncle John Gustard in Morpeth ^[3].

Charlotte married Edward Gray Davison on the 27th December 1856 in Stannington, Northumberland. She was aged 26 years 6 months. ^[4]. Together they had five children George William Davison (b 1859); Elizabeth Ann Davison (b 1861); Eleanor Davison (b 1863); John Edward Davison (b 1868) and William Davison (b 1871).
