Notes

Note N357Johann Ludwig Gutbrodt's parents were Phillip Gutbrodt and Anna Barbara Hovelbauer (I've seen this spelling only in Goodbread research). Phillip and Anna married 03 May, 1695. It was the second marriage for both.
The following information can be found in "HOFFELBAUER GENEALOGY 1585-1993" by Lewis Bunker Rohrbach, Picton Press Camden, Maine. A professional genealogist, Carla Mittelstaedt-Kubaseck, was used in Germany. There are over 1900 notes in the back of the book. If you have the GOODBREAD book and buy this one, you can have a workout by just carrying them from the bookcase to a desk.
The parents of Anna Barbara Hoffelbauer were Phillip Hoffelbauer and Anna Maria Cappler, widow of Caspar Rudolff. They married ca 1660. In a court record dated 11 August 1669 Phillip was referred to as "a very rebellious Landler". The author states that the quoted phrase implies Phillip was from "the land above the Enns River in Austria". Also, the author states the diminutive prefix Hoffel is said to be Austrian and the prefix in Swabian would have been Hofele with a different pronunciaton. A number of candidates exist for Phillip's father but there is no definitive record as yet.
The author does not have the marriage for Anna Barbara and Phillip Gutbrodt and there is no line of descent for them.
From various parts of the text, the line of ascent for Anna Barbara appears to be the following;
1. Anna Barbara Hoffelbauer bp 17 August 1662
2. Phillip Hoffelbauer b ca 1625
3. Anna Maria Cappler, bp 26 July 1630 d 17 Jan 1696, widow of Caspar Rudolff b ca 1621 d 28 Dec 1659
6. Martin Cappler b ca 1595
7. Magdalena Strohlen bp 27 April 1596
14. Michel Strohlen b ca 1565
15. Catharina Fleckler b ca 1570 d after 1633
28. Melchior Strohlen b ca 1535
29. unknown
30. Jerg Fleckler
31. Anna
60. Hans Fleckler d after 07 May 1570
The book deals mainly with the Hoffelbauer descendants of Anna Barbara's brothers who came to America. The spelling in America was varied and all began with Hef .
In the spelling of Hoffelbauer and Strohlen, there should be an umlaut above the o. I probably could have used oe instead of o.
The above surnames should be checked in the IGI by using various spellings. The "inexact spelling" button does not catch all variations. As I recall, there was a birth date in the IGI for a Catharina Fleckler/Flecker/Feckler/Fecker etc of 03 Oct 1568. My notes don't indicate what the spelling was.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hans by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hans:
