William was born on 13 October 1862 in Dadeville, Tallapoosa County, Alabama. He was the son of Thomas S Guthrie and Susan Hudson.
William passed away on 22 November 1931 in Anniston. He is buried at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston.

Guthrie Funeral Rites Conducted At Blue Mountain
Funeral services for W. B. Guthrie, aged 70, who died at his home at Blue Mountain Sunday after a long illness, were held from the Blue Mountain Baptist Church at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. O. A. Bonner officiated and interment was in Edgemont Cemetery, with Usrey in charge.
Mr. Guthrie had been a resident of Calhoun County for the last 32 years and had been living at Blue Mountain for nine years.
Surviving are the widow, two sons, W. L. Guthrie, of Alexandria, and E. C. Guthrie of Blue Mountain, four daughters, Mrs. Allen Sams, Mrs. Lee Woods and Mrs. Josephine Pettus, of Blue Mountain and Mrs. C. B. Swafford, of Alexandria; a brother, Allen Guthrie, of Dadeville, and three sisters, Mrs. Letha Woods, of Macon, Ga. and Mrs Mattie Nelson and Miss Georgia Anne Guthrie, of Dadeville.
