Biography

Margarete Guttmann was almost certainly born before 1887 given her son Kurt Flatow was born in 1907,^[1] possibly on 14 July 1880 in Berlin.^[2][3]

She married Leo Flatow (1872-1959).^[4] In 1900 Leo Flatow was working as a dentist ("Zahn-Künstler") at Magazinstraße 12a, where his brother Eduard, also a doctor, had his practice.^[5]

Margarete and Leo Flatow were the parents of:

1. Kurt Flatow (1907-1992), born on 30 Jul 1907 in Berlin.^[1] Kurt Flatow was married in Berlin but later lived in China. He emigrated to Australia in 1946 with his wife and son and died in New South Wales on 26 Nov 1992.^[6][7][8]
2. Kläre Amalie Flatow (1902-2003), born on 6 Oct 1902 in Berlin. She married Alexander (Spiegelglas) Sills (1905-1980). The couple emigrated to Australia in 1948 with their daughter. She died in New South Wales on 8 Feb 2003.^[9]

Margarete Flatow (born Guttmann) died on 18 Dec 1908 (at age 28) at her home at Alexanderstrasse 14 and was buried 3 days later on the 21st December in the Jewish Cemetery Weißensee, Berlin.^[4]

Leo remarried at least twice more. One of his subsequent wives was also named Margarete. Margarete Flatow (born Lamm) was a victim of the Holocaust.^[5]
