James Melton "Jim" Guy was born in 17 Nov 1835 in Coffeeville, Clarke, Alabama. He was the son of Wrigdon Guy and Sarah Richards.
According to the 1850 US Census James was living with his parents, Wrigdon and Sarah, and siblings Nathaniel, Julius, John, William, Mandy, and Mary in Clarke County, Alabama.[1]In the 1860 US Census the family was still living in Clarke County, Alabama. By this time Julius, had left home, Nathaniel, John, and James were farming and James Mobley was working as a carpenter. Wrigdon's farm was worth $300.[2]
Military Service James served as a Private with Company D, (Clarke County), 32nd Alabama Infantry Regiment. He was wounded and captured at the Battle of Stones River. He was a POW at Nashville and Louisville, Kentucky. He was later caputred at Spanish Fort, Alabama, were he was at the end of the war. He was also a POW on Ships Island, Mississippi.[3]
James and Frances N. Dunegan were married 23 March 1864.

According to the 1870 US Census, James and Frances were living in Clarke County, Alabama with their daugters M.I.and D.R.[4]Frances passed away in 1874 one year after their youngest child was born.
James and Octavia Chaney Williamson were married in 1876 in Choctaw County, Alabama.

In the 1880 US Census James and Octavia were living in Wayne County, Mississippi with James and France's daughters M. I., D. R., and, son J. E. O. and Octavia's daughter Mary Olivia Whitsett, and son J. M Whitsett (father John Glenn Whitsett), their natural children James Mobley and Cora VIrginia. James was working as a carpenter and the chidren were all attending school.[5]
In the 1900 US Census the family had moved to Ellisville Town, Jones, Mississippi. Willie, Frank, Leicie, Herbert and Sallie Guy were living with their parents James and Octavia. James was a carptenter and Willie a day laborer. Frand and Lettie were in school.[6]
James passed away on 26 November 1903 in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi. His remains are buried at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Jones, Mississippi.[7]
