Biography

My Aunty Esther was a fine woman. I remember her as a person I liked, very much. She always had an opinion but was so full of life that any comments she made were never hurtful, but true, never the less. I always had the feeling that she "ruled the roost" within her family and I have great admiration for every member of her family. They are all nice, decent, caring people and I think that same attitude has carried on throughout all of their families. In later life, Esther suffered the death of Uncle Tom and then had difficulty with life without him. I can recollect Adelaide and the rest of the family being very concerned that Esther was having problems and then she became involved with William BRANDLEY. William was the father of her first son, William's wife and the rest of the family were concerned. This liason was obviously born out of loneliness and comfort and I can understand it. I still have a book, given to me at Christmas in 1945 by my Aunty Esther. The book is called "BOBBY RUBBERNOSE" and has the hand written inscription from her to me. After being in contact with Robyn PEEK, I have since given Robyn that book along with a beautifully embroided table cloth which was given to Joy and I as a wedding gift. Aunty Esther always gave such a gift to all the family members for their wedding gift. Her son, Arthur and his wife moved to the Gold Coast area and I lost track of them. However, their son, Terry joined the police force and was killed in an accident while chasing a speeding driver. Robyn Peek supplied the details of where they were cremated along with their son. I found her cremated at Woronora and believe that I made a mistake because of her second marriage to William Brandley. I now believe that she has a memorial plaque at the Gold Coast where Arthur's family are buried.

Esther was born in 1898. She passed away in 1982.
