As the mistress of Alfonso XI of Castile, Leonor was hated by Alfonso's legal wife, Queen Maria of Portugal. So after Alfonso died, Maria imprisoned Leonor and had her executed in 1351. Leonor's illegitimate son, Enrique of Trastamara later deposed his half-brother, Pedro the Cruel.
