Lily spent he formative years living with her parents in Wombwell, Yorkshire. Her father, like most men living in Wombwell at that time, was a coal miner. In 1901 the family lived at 61 George Street, Wombwell, Yorkshire. In 1911 they lived at 48 George Street, Wombwell, Yorkshire. There was a close community living in this area at that time and many of Lily's extended lived nearby.
She married Charles Walter Bedford on 28 May 1917 at St Marys Church, Wombwell, Yorkshire. They had a son and three daughters. Two of their children died in infancy.
When the 1939 register was taken Lily and Charles lived at 27 Stubbs Road, Wombwell, Yorkshire. The house they lived in would have been a new council house at that time. Lily's brother, Horace, was living with them.
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Lily by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
