Ellen was born in 1867.

Name

The name given in the 1898 census, Heen-cho-win-kaw, is for Hįčowįga, from , "hair, fur"; čo, the color spanning the spectrum from blue through green; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. This is an attested Wolf Clan name. Hįčoga was one of the primordial Wolf Spirit brothers who founded the Hocąk Wolf Clan.
