Biography

Maximilian (22 March 1459 – 12 January 1519) was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1508 until his death.

He married Mary of Burgundy in 1477. The couple had three children:

  • Philip the Handsome (1478–1506)
  • Margaret of Austria (1480–1533)
  • Francis of Austria (1481-1481).

He also married:

  • Anne of Brittany (1477–1514) in Rennes on 18 December 1490. Unconsummated, the marriage was dissolved by the Pope in 1492.
  • Bianca Maria Sforza (1472–1510) in 1493. they had no children.

Wikitree misses all the children of Maximilian with other mothers. Genealogics lists all the following.[1]:

  • Leopold von Österreich, Bishop of Cordoba , b. Abt 1515 Issue (another bishop)
  • Dorothea von Österreich, Frau zu Falkenburg, Durbuy und Dalem , b. 1516, d. 1572 Issue
  • Anna von Österreich, b. 1517 Married
  • Anna (Margareta) von Österreich, b. Abt 1517 (perhaps the same as above? but different husband) Married
  • Elisabeth von Österreich, b. Est 1518, d. Bef 1584 Married
  • Barbara von Österreich
  • Cornelius von Österreich
  • Christoph Ferdinand von Österreich

I have added the Succession Box and Category to all subsequent Holy Roman Emperors, but I am not pre-1500 certified so someone else will need to start with Maximilian I and work backwards for the rest.
