Mathurin Haché was born on 10 March 1784 in Nipisiguit, (in present-day New Brunswick which was then part of the Colony of Nova Scotia). [1] He had a lay baptism at birth by Joseph Haché. He had a formal baptism on 20 June 1784 in Nipisiguit. His godparents were Mathurin Tibo and Marie Arseneau.
There are no Haché's listed on the 1818 survey of Cape Breton, but the clue lies in the Haché-Gallant hyphenation. It appears the family was going by "Galland". Listed are;[2]
