Biography

Elizabeth Hacker was probably the youngest daughter of John Hacker Esq of East Bridgford Nottinghamshire and his wife Margaret Goode, as she was the only child recorded in the baptismal record there, on 28 May 1593. [1] She was mentioned in the 1627 Will of her mother. [2]

Elizabeth married twice: on 9 January 1614/5 at the church of St Peter at East Bridgford she married Thomas Wightman of Nether Hall, East Stoke, as his second wife. [3] [4] The marriage ended at Wightman's death in 1615/6, burial recorded at East Bridgford on 5 February[5] leaving one son - John Wightman b. 14 September 1614; d. 1659. [6]

Elizabeth married secondly to Richard the eldest son of Sir Richard Harpur of Littleover in Derbyshire and had 5 sons: Richard (died unmarried), John (Rector of Morley), Henry (died unmarried), Joseph (married Dorothy Pegg), William (a merchant in Plymouth - died without issue). They also had 3 daughters: Elizabeth (married Robert Draper of Coland), Mary (died unmarried) and Catherine (married Henry Arden of Longcroft in Staffordshire). [7]

Elizabeth and her husband Richard Harpur were left legacies in the 1639 Will of her brother Rowland Hacker. [8]

Richard Harpur signed his Will [9] in 1666 and it was proved on 22 February 1670/1. There was no mention of his wife or his eldest son Richard, who can be presumed to have died before this date.

Through her son John Harpur, Elizabeth was an ancestor of the Earls Ferrers ( 7th Earl Ferrers).
