I have yet to come up with a satisfactory explanation of why Lee was enumerated as Laverne on the 1920 & 1930 censuses. (Why once as male and once as female is even harder to explain!)
Lee may have had numerous wives. His first was Donna Wood who was born on April 14, 1917 in Somerville, Massachusetts, USA. She was a singer and an actress, known for Pot o' Gold (1941). She died on April 8, 1947 in Hollywood, California. [1] "Donna Wood was the wife of Lee Hackler, a musical conductor, but of which, little is known about today. They were married in 1943."[2]She was the sister of Gloria wood. [3]
I've listed some references to possibly two other wives below. As of 2016, I am aware of no children.

Quotes below from "60 Years Ago Today" column of the Marion Record:
"november 15, 1945-{L}V.H. Hackler, former Tampa Kansas, boy and son of Mrs. Viola Hackler who lives in Tampa, has signed a seven year contract with 20th Century Fox. Hackler, a musician, is married to the former Donna Wood of Boston, now a radio singer. The couple are making their home in Hollywood."[6]
"april 11, 1946-Lee Hackler, son of Mrs. Viola Hackler of Tampa, is serving as confidential secretary to Will Rogers Jr., who is seeking the nomination on the Democratic ticket to the United States Senate. Mr. Hackler and his wife, Donna Wood, a motion picture actress, make their home in Beverly Hills."[7]
Quote from Valley News, Van Nuys, California:
"December 10, 1968-As usual Beverly (Mrs. Lee H.) Hackler didn't step out of the kitchen. She and provisional members kept tea table trays filled with Christmas goodies..."[8]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Lee by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Lee:
