He was ordained to the eldership in 1937 at the Old German Baptist Church, Ephrata R1, and was a minister of that chugch since 1923. A retired farmer, he was a resident of Clay Township most of his life. He was born in Quarryville, a son of the late Jacob L. and Katie Miller Hackman. His first wife, Emma Rupp Hackman, died in 1946 and he subsequently married Ethel R. Benedict Hackman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Lloyd R., Akron; Charles R., New Holland; Chester R., Stevens R1: James R., Ephrata R1, and Edna R., wife of Kenneth Stamy, Modesto, Calif.; 23 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Arthur M. Hackman and a sister, Mrs. Katie M. Weaver, both of Ephrata.
