Research Notes

William Hackney's widow Elizabeth Hackney (probably this one) was sued by William Fox, surviving executor of Hannah Fox, dec'd in 1713. Why?

The will of John Hackney Dobson dated 7 Apr 1726, proved 4 Oct 1726 named his three sisters, Rachael, Mabel, and Rebecca Dobson. Also "Friends" (terminology often used for cousins), John Rhoads and William Hackney. Exors: His three sisters. Wit: John Sanders and William Baker. The mentioned John Rhodes married to Ann Paine, William's granddaughter by daughter Mabel Paine, in 1708. This John Hackney Dobson was perhaps a descendant of William Hackney.

John Hackney Dobson s/o Francis/Frank Dodson, and was child not by his wife but by young Mary Mabel Hackney. He also fathered as second child with her , Elizabeth, but Mabel Married Nicholas Paine of London from the north end of the county when she was 6 months along and the child became a Elzabeth Paine. John Hackney Dodson's half sister Ann Married John Rhodes and this the "cousin" reference. See the Book "A Place in Time, Middlesex VA 1650-1750" by Rutman 1980. There are over 12,000 biographies on file from the research of that book at the VA Historical Society in Richmons. You can email them and pay for some digital copies of your ancestor's biographies from one of the 52 binders. It is amazing.

Adding to this comment Mabel Hackney Paine and Francis/Frank Dodson finally married after the death of their spouses and had four children. Her father's will reflects his acrimony towards her when he left one shilling to Mabel, the traditional disinheritance; her children 'born whilst she was Nikolas Paines wife" -a phrase carefully excluding John Hackney Dodson and and Mabel's legitimate children by Dodson- were named as contingency heirs Paine died in 1715 and in his will Paine did not acknowledge Elizabeth Paine, the child born to Mabel three months after marriage to Nicholas Paine, although she was still alive. Pain left bequests to his daughters by Mabel- for Mary and Ann. (in Rutmans' book Paine is spelled Payne) He left his daughter 300 acres in Upper Middlesex which were then managed by Mabel's new husband Francis Dodson in lower Middlesex
