Baptised Arthur Ralph Allison on April 8, 1829, he is the son of Jane Allison and William Haddock and was born several years prior to their marriage on 29 August 1829 in Bishopwearmouth.[1]
By the time he was a mariner he was going by the name Arthur Ralph Haddock and his date of birth was given as March 17, 1829 on his Master's Certificate of Service -- #60.840 and when he married, he gave his father's name as William Haddock.[2]

His 1st marriage was to Hannah Foster on July 15, 1849 in Bishop-Wearmouth, Durham, England. His father was William Haddock and hers was William Foster.[4]
His 2nd marriage was to Eleanor Graydon on October 11, 1856 at St Peter, Monkwearmouth, County Durham. She was 20 years old and he was 26. His father was William Haddock and hers was George Graydon.[5]
Arthur died at the age of 38 years on June 6, 1861 at Masley's Hotel in Port Elizabeth, Cape Colony, South Africa. He was a Ship Owner (Captain of the B K Herrington and a Master mariner and his home residence was Holmside in the township of Bishop Wearmouth in County Durham, England. His widow Eleanor Haddock was his beneficiary.[6]
