Sarah was born in 1840, the illegitimate daughter of Martha Haddock and at her baptism on July 19th her name was listed as "Sarah Ann Huxley Haddock".
Her mother Martha aged 21 married her father Samuel Huxley aged 16 a couple of months after Sarah's birth.
In the 1841 Census, Sarah and her parents are with her maternal grandparents William Haddock and Ellen Cook at the "Ridge" in Runcorn, Cheshire.
On May 13, 1854, Sarah along with all the other members of her family set sail from Liverpool aboard "The Orient" for New York, USA,
