Nellie Christine Haddock was born Aug. 7, 1857 in Chicago to English immigrants George Haddock and Rosetta (Holt) Haddock. [1]
She met and married Texan Johann August Braeutigam on Oct. 3, 1874 in Marysville, Yuba Co.,California. He was a blacksmith who had set up shop in Gridley Station. It was there that their first and only child Annie would be born.[2]
In 1877, the family moved to Comanche, Texas where August set up a large blacksmith shop. From Comanche, they moved to Laredo where August owned at grocery store. After 5 years they moved to Fredericksburg where August had inherited 44 acres from his father. He established another blacksmith shop there refered to as the "Tool Box".
In 1885, the family moved to Kerrville, where August opened a second blacksmith shop on Water Street. He died in 1916.
Nellie passed away Aug. 13, 1942 in Kerrville[3] and was buried at Glen Rest Cemetery in Kerrville, Kerr Co., Texas.
