DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Curious why you're sure he was born 1878 and that his father was William John Haddock born 1850?

So very frustrating! Why can John and/or Ann not be located in the 1939 Register? I had hoped to see the actual DOB that he used. Nothing available in Probate records for him in 1959 :-(

The obit picture at FAG states he was 84 when he died which would make him born about 1875ish but of course that's simply the age his widow would have stated in newspaper.

I searched Ancestry, FamilySearch and FindMyPast for a birth for him in either Northumberland or Leicestershire for the years 1874-1878 and there was nothing for either county.

Have you been able to view the 1921 Census to see what he gives as his place of birth at that time?

Hi Dallas,

The date of birth for both my grand and great grandfathers were given by family members. I can't find any thing about ggfather haddock. The family said he came from the west coast around Whithaven / Maryport? So he could have come up from Cheshire. If you have any suggestions I would be grateful. Dave

Will keep my eyes wide open .... on his marriage cert to Sarah, does he give his father's occupation?

Have you ever been able to identify the marriage witness Elizabeth Band Haddock? Maybe she was a relative.

Have you seen the newspaper clipping posted at his FAG memorial? (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/223771075/john-william-haddock) .... wonder who close his widow was with his age?

So excited!! I found the family in the 1939 England & Wales Register -- his name was mis-transcribed Joan W. Haddock and his DOB as given by him was also mis-transcribed!!

I've added the details and link in his bio -- wasn't sure how you all wanted it set out ....
