Henry was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1841, the son of Samuel Hadley and Ann Munroe. His mother died when he was about 7 years old.
He enlisted to serve in the Civil War when he was 20 years old. He mustered in as a Private in Company E of the Massachusetts 13th Infantry on July 16, 1861. He was discharged at Boston, Mass., on August 1, 1864, at the end of his 3 year term.
He married Adelaide Jordan, daughter of George and Emma (Noyes) Jordan, in 1866.[1] They were living in Portland, Maine, in 1870, where Henry worked as a glass packer.[2] They soon returned to Boston, where both of their sons were born. Henry, born in 1873, died when he was 5 years old.
Henry worked as a paper hanger, the occupation of his father, in 1880[3]; a janitor in Boston in 1900[4]; and by 1910 he was living in Somerville, MA, with his wife. The 1920 census shows him working as a nightwatchman for a safety vault. He was 78 years old at the time.[5]
Henry died in Chelsea, MA, in 1924. His final resting place is not known.
