Mary was born on 12 July 1759. She was the daughter of John Hadley and Margaret (Morton) Hadley.[1][2]
When Mary was 19 she married Samuel Pennock on 6 May 1779.[3] They had nine children.
Mary died at the age of 81 on 4 August 1840.[2][4]
Mary's granddaughter Edith Pennock said, "My father's mother, Mary Hadley Pennock, was 'a plump dumpling of a woman.' A good household manager. — Tidy and neat in person and thro' her house. Quick-tempered, generous, kind, sympathetic. She liked to see young folks marry. She married at twenty. She liked to help young mothers when the little ones came. Had skill in that way. Might have been a good doctor. Pity she had not the chance. She dressed as did the plainest of Friends and believed in their doctrine of 'plainness,' but her native instincts and feelings favored the warm, comfortable, 'cushiony' aspects of life. Very social. Did like visiting and receiving visits. To give up a visit or a sociable time that se had arranged for and set her heart on was hardly to be tho't of."[5]
