Clemence Haggerty was born on 22 March about 1834[1]-1841[2] in New York[2][1]. She was the child[2][1][3] of Ogden Haggerty and Elizabeth Segdwick Kneeland, the wife[3] of James Mason Crafts, and the sister-in-law of Civil War soldier Colonel Robert Gould Shaw who fought and died with the famous 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
She passed away in 1912 and is buried at Church on the Hill Cemetery in Lenox, Massachusetts.[3]
