Amon G. Haile was born January 22, 1793 in Flynns Lick, Jackson County, Tennessee. He was the son of Joshua Haile and Mary Stephenson. Amon had at least five brothers/sisters.
He married Lockney Brown. [1] Amon and Lockney had 15 children. Six sons served in the Confederate Army, their son Joshua died before the war, and was the only son that did not serve.
Amon passed away September 6, 1867 in Flynns Lick, Jackson, Tennessee. Both Amon and Lockney are believed to have been laid to rest in Brown Cemetery, Jackson County, Tennessee, United States. [2]
Military
Amon Haile volunteered for the War of 1812. Filed in 1830 for Bounty Land due him because of his father's service in the War of 1812.
Research Notes
Amon Haile and his wife, Lockie Brown, were both natives of Jackson county, Tennessee and descendants of two old Virginian families, representatives of who were among the first settlers of West and middle Tennessee. Amon was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, was a volunteer in the War of 1812 from that county, being then a lad in his teens, was a blacksmith and a farmer, a man of quiet life and unostentatious ways. He died in 1867, in the seventy-fifth year of his age.[3]
Amon was supposedly struck and killed by lightning but I have also seen where a tree fell on him. Maybe the tree was struck by lightning and then fell on him.
