Biography

Jeremiah Haines was born on 25 March 25, 1713 in Burlington County, New Jersey, the eighth of ten known children and the fifth of six sons of William and Sarah Paine Haines.
On 6 September 1736, when he was twenty-three, he married Hannah Bonnell. She bore him three known children, a son and two daughters:
  1. Rebecca Haines
  2. Sarah Haines
  3. William Haines
On 30 December 1774, when he was sixty-one, Jeremiah died of unknown causes in Northampton Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.

"Jeremiah Haines (son of William, grandson of Richard) farmer, of Northampton Twp., Burlington Co., N.J., b. 1 mo (Mar) 25, 1713; d. 10 mo. 30, 1774; m. under the care of Burlington MM, N.J., 7 mo. (Sept.) 6, 1736, HANNAH BONNELL, d. 8 mo. 16, 1754; daughter of ROBERT BONNELL, probably by his wife, FRANCES GOODWIN. Frances Goodwin m., as her 3rd husband, WILLIAM HAINES ( son of Richard). their marriage was reported to Burlington MM 8 mo. (Oct.) 3, 1736. His will was dated Sept. 19, 1774, and was probated Nov. 10, 1774. An inventory of his personal property was made on Nov. 8, 1774."

The children of Jeremiah and Hannah (Bonnell) Haines were: 1.) SARAH (Haines) Hillier, b. June 25, 1737; d. 12 mo. 5, 1800; m. 1761, Isaac Hillier (son of Edward Hillier and Sarah (Haines) Hillier. (Sarah Haines Hillier, dau. of Richard, granddau. of Richard). The children of Sarah and Isaac Hillier (or Hilyard) were HANNAH (Hillier) COSTILL, LYDIA (Hillier) NORCROSS, REBECCA, FRANCES (Hillier) HAINES, MARTHA (Hillier) ENGARD. 2.) WILLIAM, b. March 29, 1739; d. 3 mo. 18, 1817; m. abt. 1777 MARY EASTLACK (d. 1783). Mary was disowned at the Evesham MM, N.J. on 1779 for this marriage. ?? The children of William and Mary (Eastlack) Haines were FRANCES (Haines) TOMLINSON, JEREMIAH and MARY (Haines) HAINES. 3.) ROBERT, b. Dec. 17, 1741; d. 6 mo. 21, 1821, in his 80th year; m. 1766, RACHEL VENICOMB (daughter of Frances and Rachel (Lippincott) Venicomb). The children of Robert and Rachel (Venicomb) Haines were HANNAH (Haines) WOOLSTON, CHARLOTTE (Haines) WOOLSTON, ANNE (unmarried), JEREMIAH, WILLIAM, REBECCA, RACHEL (Haines) BISHOP, SARAH, MARY (Haines) DAVIS, and BEULAH (Haines) DEACON. 4.) REBECCA (Haines) WHITE, b. Sept. 27, 1744; d. 3 mo. 22, 1826 in her 82nd year; m. 1775, JOHN WHITE (son of Josiah and Rebecca (Foster) White). The children of Rebecca and John were JOSIAH, JOHN, CHRISTOPHER, JOSIAH, HANNAH, and JOSEPH 5.) FRANCES, (Haines) HILLIER, b. Oct. 10, 1746; d. 8 mo. 29, 1822; m. 1776, JOHN HILLIER (son of Edward Hillier and Sarah (Haines) Hillier. The children of Frances and John Hillier were MARY, JOHN, ISAAC, HANNAH, ELIZABETH AND REBECCA. 6.) HANNAH, b. March 16, 1749; d. 4 mo. 29, 1763. 7.) JEREMIAH, b. Sept. 14, 1751; d. 6 mo. 15, 1776; m. 1775 MARY HANN. Jeremiah was "disowned" for marrying outside the faith. Jeremiah and Mary had one child, ELIZABETH.

Son, Jeremiah Haines, 50 acres of my plantation, next towards Mount Holly; also the land I bought of Joseph Fenimore, situated in Mount Holly; also the pine land which I bought of Aaron Lippincott. Sons, William, Robert and Jeremiah, my cedar swamp; also my Propriety Rights. Son, William, the plantation where I live. Daughters, Rebecca Haines and Frances Haines, £100 each.
