No record has been found of the birth of Margaret "Peggy" Haines, and her ancestry is unknown. 1776 is a reasonable estimate for her birth date; see the Research Note below.
Marriage
The published vital records of Scarborough, Maine, show the marriage of Dodavah Harmon and Margaret Haines at Scarborough (then in Massachusetts), on 10 Sep 1796.[1] The 1920 Harmon genealogy gives the date as 11 Oct 1795 and says that Margaret was "of Pepperrellboro" (now the town of Saco, Maine);[2] the earlier date may be the date of their marriage intention.
Children
Margaret married Dodivah Harmon in 1796.[3][4] They had the following children:
Charlotte Harmon b. 02-02-1797[5] d. 06-21-1810[6] (twin sister of Louisa; died young)
Louisa Harmon b.02-01-1797[7] d.07-15-1810[8] (twin sister of Charlotte; died young)
Catharine Harmon b. 12-19-1799[9] d. 08-07-1810[10] (died young)
No record has been found of the death of Margaret "Peggy" (Haines) Harmon. She was probably living in 1830; see the Research Note below. In 1850, a Margaret was living at Livermore with Granville Goding and Louisa (Harmon) Goding, Margaret's daughter, with her age shown as 75, with the last name of Goding assumed. [20]This could have been Margaret Harmon, with her last name interpreted incorrectly by the census taker.
Research Note
An Ancestry, com profile claims that Margaret "Peggy" (Haines) Harmon died at Livermore, Maine, on 17 Jun 1825 at the age of 50, but it cites no source,[21] and no other record has been found of her death. In 1830, the household of Dodavah Harmon at Leeds, Maine, includes a female aged between 50 and 60.[22] If this was Margaret "Peggy" (Haines) Harmon, it places her birth between 1770 and 1780. She married in 1796, and her last known child was born in 1820, which places her birth between about 1775 and about 1780. 1776 is thus a reasonable estimate for her birth date.
