Ann was the daughter of Enos Haines and Mary Evans. She was born some time between 1806 and 1810. A different birth date is given on each of the Census found for Ann. Richard Haines and his Descendants estimates her birth year as 1807.
According to Richard Haines and His Descendants, Ann's family settled in Ohio in 1800. The family moved about a fair amount before finally settling is Leesburg, Ohio. Therefore, her birthplace is not entirely certain, except that it is certain she was born in Ohio, despite the 1860 Census that records her birthplace as New Jersey. Based on the Census records, Ann, herself, was not entirely sure of the year or place of her birth.
In 1832, Ann married Tilghman (Tillman) Chance, the son of Isaac and Sarah Chance, in Lees Creek, Ohio, under the care of Fairfield MM, Ohio. In 1836, Ann and Tilghman moved from Ohio to Washington Township, Indiana. Ann and Tilghman and their children, Levi and Joshua were received at the Westfield, Indiana, Monthly Meeting on March 9, 1837. Many of Ann's siblings were also relocating to Washington Township, Indiana, perhaps because the area was being settled by like-minded abolitionist Quakers.
Ann's husband died in 1869, and Ann moved in with her son, Isaac's family. Ann does not appear in the 1880, Census, so she probably died some time in the ten years between 1870 and 1880.
