Biography

John William Hait was born 1 January 1821 in Peerskill, Westchester, New York, the son of Seth Hait (1794 CT-1832 NY) and Mary Antoinette Oppie (1799 NY-1876 NY). John married twice:

• M1) 1 December 1847 in Connecticut, to Elizabeth R. Knevals (1828-1858). Three children: John W., Jr., 1849 NY-1881; Warren B., 1851CT-1934; and Lilly, born in 1854 NY, who lived eight days.
• M2) 13 March 1860 in New York, to Harriet Louise Depew. They had (at least) two children: Louise, 1863 NY-1950; and Mary Antoinette, 1869 NY-1941. ^[1]
