Abraham Hale was born in about 1786 in Lingfield, Surrey. He was the son of Abraham Hale, a yeoman, and Ann Unstead, his wife, being baptised at St Peter and St Paul's, Lingfield on February 22nd 1786. [1]
Married Life
Abraham Hale was a farmer.
Abraham married Mary Dives by license on October 28th 1808 at St Peter and St Paul's, Lingfield. Their marriage license was issued the day before, on October 27th 1808. [2]
Abraham, in 1841, was the head of household at the Hale Farm in Withyham, Sussex and was living there with his wife, seven of his children and five farm labourers. [3]
In 1851, still at the Hale Farm, Abraham was living with his wife, his two youngest children Henry and Alice and two visitors Maria and Susan Wicken. Additionally, four farm labourers were also recorded as servants in the household. [4]
A decade later, in 1861, Abraham was still living at the Hale Farm with his wife, son Henry and now also his daughter Emma and two servants by the names of William Box and Jane Sherlock. On this census, Abraham was also recorded as being deaf. [5]
Death
Abraham died in Withyham, Sussex on November 14th 1863 with his will being proved at Lewes on December 12th of that same year. He was buried in St Michael and All Angels Churchyard, Withyham on November 20th 1863. [6][7][8][9]
