George married Ellen, who made her will on October 15, 1710 and who died before December 13, 1710. He was a sworn justice of Lancaster county court, in 1684. In 1685 and 1697 he served as a member of the House of Burgessses from Lancaster County.[2] George made his Will December 30, 1697 and it was proved in Lancaster county, January 12, 1698. George Hale and his wife, Ellen, who died in 1710, left in addition to their son Nicholas who settled in Maryland, the following children: [4]
George's Will was probated Jan 12, 1698 and lists all his children. His wife's will also lists the same children. George and John Hale laid out the town of Lancaster, Virginia in 1682. He and all his brothers and their families settled in the tidewater counties of Chesapeake Bay.
Descendants of William and Priscilla (Downman) Hale, through their son George who married Sarah Smith, spread to Goochland County and into West Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri. George Hale was a Burgess from Lancaster County in 1759, but later moved to Fauquier. His wife, Sarah (Smith) Hale, was the daughter of Phillip Smith, son of Capt. John Smith of Purton, Gloucester County, and Mary (Mathews) Smith, a great-granddaughter of Governor Samuel Mathews.
