Biography

Dixie B. Hale was born in about 1908 to Sam and Hattie (Thornton) Hale.[1],[2]

Dixie had several siblings including John, Ida (Hale) Roberts, Melvin Hale (b. abt 1900 in Illinois), and Myrtle (b. abt 1907 in Missouri).[1] Dixie's parents divorced and her father remarried, and Dixie had several additional half-siblings.

By 1920, Dixie was residing in the household of her older sister Ida and Thomas Roberts, along with her mother and additional minor sister Myrtle.[3]

By 1930, Dixie was boarding with her brother John in Texas, working for the George Loos Show, a traveling carnival along the rail lines.[4],[5],[6]
