Biography

Mr. John Marion Halford, 85, a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of the Bells Chapel neighborhood, died at his home there Tuesday, following a number of years of ill health. Funeral services were held at Bells Chapel Wednesday morning by Rev O. D. Spence. Burial was in the cemetery there. J. W. Baird and Sons in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Halford was a native of Gibson County, having been born March 17, 1853, and remaining a resident in the county all his life. Mr Halford was twice married. His first union was to Susan F. Smalley on Jan 27, 1876. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive. They are: John Halford, Mrs. Drunette Glidewell and Ira Halford, all of Bells Chapel, and Mrs. Thulie Davis of the Walnut Grove community. His second marriage was to Martha Grisham in November, 1894, to which union one child was born, Mrs. Ethel Johnson of Bells Chapel who also survives.

Other survivors are one step-son, John Grisham, by his second wife; one sister: Mrs. Jane Reed and one brother, A. B. Halford of the Bells Chapel community. Fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive with other relatives and friends.
