Biography

Nederlanders na 1811
Gesina (Halfschepel) Mettes is geboren in Noord-Holland na 1811

Gesina was born in Hoorn, Noord-Holland, Nederland on 12 October 1824 [1] at nine in the evening in the "Brouwerijsteeg". The registration shows that her father Simon Halfschepel was a labourer by profession , her mother Marijtje Luitjes is listed as having no profession.

In the past a Mettes-family mailinglist existed (which was intended to create a book on the Mettes family). It is fairly sure that the marriage information originated from there: on 19 April 1852 Gesina married John Mettes in Lancaster, New York.

Although this is undocumented (the mailing list no longer exists and the book has not been found) their marriage is (in a way) confirmed by the results of the 1880 US census for Jackson, Macon, Missouri [2] which show they were living there with three of their children Martinus, Mary and Annie.

She passed away on 24 Aug 1904 as is "proven" by the memorial that was erected for her (and her husband) in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Macon, Macon County, Missouri [3].
