Nimrod Hall lived in Appalachia, in Kentucky.

War of 1812 Pensioner - "Roden" HALL, served as a Private in a Company of the Virginia Militia commanded by Captain John HAMMONS from Russell County, Virginia and in the 6th Regiment of the Virginia Militia commanded by Colonel Henry E. COLEMAN. Received a sick discharge due to him contracting a disease called "camp fever" from exposure which settled into his limbs and spine making him unable to serve and affecting him for the rest of his life.[1] The pension application stated his discharge was 7 December 1814 from Camp River, Fort Barbour
RESEARCHER'S NOTES: Common infectious diseases that were noted to have been prevalent in the War of 1812 were Dysentery, Typhoid Fever (also known as "lake" Fever), pneumonia, malaria, measles, "Flux" or any form of diarrhea and smallpox. - Military Medicine in the War of 1812
RESEARCHER'S NOTES: Of the above infectious diseases, I think the most likely would have been Malaria as it can cause pain and fatigue in muscles and joints. It also can reoccur. However it could have been something entirely different like polio. We will probably never know for sure what his affliction was.

Nimrod HALL was married on before 1805 to Mary STURGEON or STURGILL.

RESEARCHER'S NOTE: The Surname of STURGEON has also been seen in records as STURGILL and other spellings.

Mary STURGEON or STURGILL was born about 1786 in North Carolina[2] and died about 21 February 1863 in Floyd County, Kentucky. Her mother was reportedly Sarah (HANKS) STURGILL.

This could be an error by the enumerator or the informant for the household information. - There was also a marriage on 22 March 1827 in Scott County, Virginia of a Thomas DIAL to Frances ROSE.[6] This might have been a relation to Elizabeth's first husband or maybe a prior marriage of his as he was so much older than she was [He was 90 years old and she was 37 years old in 1850.] my current theory is that Thomas DEEL married this Frances ROSE and they had children the last of which was born about 1833 - Campbell DEEL per 1850 census household.[7], [8], [9] His wife may have died and then he married Elizabeth HALL to help take care of his children. {other children in 1850 household: Granville DEEL b. about 1835 and Tolbert DEEL b. about 1846} This is just a theory and has yet to be proven. [Statement: 7 November 2017 by Jeanne HOWELL]

  18. Miles HALL (Born: About 1834 in Virginia; Married: Lucy MULLINS) - Note: Marriage in April 1855 in Floyd County, Kentucky records state a Miles HALL married to Lucy REY [Bond Dated: 12 April 1855][15]; Note: wife was previously married to James RAY. His Father was living in his household in the 1870 census record. - Father of Louisa Jane HALL
  19. Unknown Female Child Born Between 1835 and 1840 per 1840 Census Record. This individual is not in the 1850 census household of her parents.

There are 4 children in the 1850 census household whose parentage is in question. I believe that Mary STURGILL would have been too old to have been their mother as by 1840 she should have been approximately 54 years old and that they may have been grandchildren. Likewise the last unknown female child in the list of children above who was listed in 1840 as being born between 1835 and 1840 could possibly be added to this listing.

  1. John HALL (Born: About 1838 in Kentucky)
  2. Lemuel HALL (Born: About 1841 in Kentucky)
  3. Jackson HALL (Born: About 1845 in Kentucky)
  4. William HALL (Born: About 1848 in Kentucky)

Household before this one was a David HALL, age 22 Years who was born in Virginia. He appears to be married to a woman named Nancy who was 20 years old and born in Virginia. There is a 2 year old male in the household named Jasper HALL. It is probable that David is related in some fashion to Rodden HALL, perhaps another of Rodden's children.

Note: Those listed as "Possible" still need to be examined against known children and age brackets that the known members of the household would have been enumerated into in order to determine if this is a likely match for the profiled individual
  • 1810 - Scott County, Virginia was formed from parts of Lee, Russell and Washington County, Virginia and was not formed by this census year. The census records of Lee and Russell County, Virginia were lost and as such the census record of Nimrod "Rodden" HALL was probably destroyed as well. The only county of the three that formed Scott County, Virginia that survived destruction was Washington County, Virginia. The other possibility is he may have been enumerated in North Carolina.

The 1850 Census reflects Anna Hall age 26 and her three children by Jesse Sturgill. Those children are Lemuel, (Andrew) Jackson, and William. There was once a family Bible page that showed the relationship. It was witnessed by Andrew Sturgill in his book "A Brief History of the Sturgill Family in America (?)" https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/item/388817-a-brief-history-of-the-sturgill-family-in-america-from-1650-to-1960?viewer=1&offset=0#page=1&viewer=picture&o=&n=0&q=
