Mary Ann Hall was baptised with her older brother James on the 8th of March 1835. I cannot be sure of her birth date, but feel it was likely close to the baptismal date as many of the baptismal records include birthdates for those who were born on a different date than the baptism occurred, not sure but likely therefore she was born close to this date. At the time the family is living in the "Moor". 1841 finds her living in a place described as "Wooden Box" in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire with her parents and six siblings. Her father is a labourer. 1851 finds her living away from her family as a house servant for an Innkeeper (John Brunt) and his wife Mary in Swadlincote, Derbyshire. She marries William Cross in 1855 and they are living in Burton-on-trent at the time of her marriage. She moves with William first to MacClesfield, Cheshire where the first of her children were born and then to Fenton, Staffordshire by 1861. 1871 finds her still in Fenton, but by 1881 she is back in Crewe, where she disappears (likely dies) before the census in 1891. No record of her death can be located.
