He enlisted in the Civil War on 4 Mar 1862 as a Private, serving in the 48th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company B. He was imprisoned on 5 Jul 1863 in Greencastle, Pennsylvania and paroled about 15 Oct 1863; Mustered out (surrendered) on 9 Apr 1865 at the Appomattox Court House, Virginia.[1][5]
He married Susan C Dyer, daughter of Thomas Dyer and Nancy Ann Dozier, on 8 Dec 1868 in Warren County, Georgia.[6] He was about 25 years old. They had 1 child together:
