Sophia was born[1] in 1870 in Hive, Yorkshire, England, and was baptised nearby in Eastrington.[2] She lived in Hive with her parents, Robert Hall and Annie Harrison, in 1871.[3]
At the time of the 1881 census, Sophia was boarding with the Bellamy family on All Saints Street in Hull, Yorkshire.[4] In 1891 she lived with her mother in Eastrington. Sophia was a farmer's daughter.[5]
She married William Scruton in Eastrington in 1899.[6][7] In 1901 the family lived at Yokefleet Grange in the parish of Bishopsoil. William was a farmer.[8] They lived at Yokefleet Lodge in 1911.[9]

Sophia Halls parent were Robert Hall and Ann Harrison, Robert Halls parents were William Hall and Sophia, Their gravestone is in Eastrington Church. William Halls parent were Samuel Hall and Mary Biscomb. Samuel and all his children, except William, were immigrants to Quebec Canada where there are a lot of descendants. Sophie Hall had 4 brothers. Two brothers, John William and George married other Scruton siblings John William married Jane Ann Scruton and George married Gertrude Scruton..
