Biography

Samuel was born on 29 June 1814 in Gillingham, Dorset. He was the son of Samuel Hall and Jane Hann. He was christened in St Mary's, on 2 May 1815.

Some time late he moved to London, where he married Sarah Hunter Nairn on 10 Feb 1846 in St. John Southwark, London, Surrey.

Samuel Hall-Sarah Hunter Nairn. Marriage 1846

An uncle, Edward Hall (1806-1877) and his wife Rachel Hall and family settled in Adelaide in July 1848, so they are the first of Samuel Hall, Snr.'s family to move down-under.

Samuel, his wife, and one child (John Sinclair), departed London (Deal) in the barque Coromandel, on 13 December, 1848, and arrived in Port Phillip Bay on 8 May 1849, after passing through Adelaide. [1]

In Australia between 1849 and 1865 they had a further 7 children; 2 sons and five daughters, all born in Brighton (now Moorabbin). All but one survived to adulthood.

In 1857 his brother, Edward Hall with his wife, Mary, and 7 children emigrated to Melbourne.

In 1872 Samuel is known to be at Strathtulloh, near Melton, Victoria. Some time later he moved down to Loch, near where most of his children were living.

Samuel died 4 August 1899, at his residence "Wynalta," Loch, aged 85. [2] HALL,Saml,Hall Saml,Jane UNKNOWN,85,Loch.
