Biography

Isham Hall was the son of ISHAM HALL SR. (b. 1746) the son of THOMAS AND MARTHA (BOLLING) HALL. His mother was MARY JANE MULLINS (b. 1748, d. 1826), the daughter of WILLIAM M. AND KATHERINE ELIZABETH (VARNER) MULLINS. Raised in the Magotty Creek area of Franklin County, VA.

ISHAM HALL JR. married JANE MULLINS (b. abt 1792, d. aft 1870). She was the daughter of JOHN WESLEY AND VIRGINIA (BAILEY) MULLINS. They were married in Russell County, Virginia in 1818. They lived in the Indian Creek area of Russell VA.

Isham was a petitioner to the Virginia legislature in October of 1844 for partition of Russell into a new county , later successfully creating Wise County, VA. [1]

Land Deeds

  • January 7th, 1852 - 300 acres located on Bent Branch of Indian Creek - The property was acquired from George A. Warder et al, grantors, by their attorney-in-fact. [2]
  • June 28, 1852 - 230 acres on the Pound Fork of Sandy River -This tract was a partial exchange on land warrant #2624 dated 19 Dec 1832. The bounds are described as "corner to James M. Gibson, corner to Jarred Justice, corner to Hiram Justice, corner to John Creech, near the mouth, corner to J. W. Cordel." [3]
  • June 6 1853 - Russell (now Wise), Virginia, U. S. - 400 acres of land on the waters of Indian Creek The grantors were George V. Bacon et al, by their attorney-in-fact. [4]
  • April 15, 1854 - Russell (now Wise), Virginia, United States - 200 acres of land on the waters of Indian Creek - Isham transferred this tract to their son, Greenway Hall. The transfer was recorded in Russell County Deed Book 13, p. 286.

Death

Death records of Wise County, list consumption as the cause of Ishams death at age 78, this was reported by wife Jane Hall.

Isham was buried in The Isham Hall Graveyard is on Indian Creek, located about 10 miles north of Wise, and three hundred yards northeast on US 23. [5]

Ishams Will was filed for probate in 1858 in Wise , Virginia. Will Book 3, p. 29; list of heirs was recorded on p. 31 on 24 Mar 1858. A bill of sale for selected items was filed in Will Book 2, p. 132 on 24 Sep 1874.

The report reads as follows: "The following is a sale bill of the personal property belonging to Isom Hall decd. sold on the 24th day of Sept. 1874 --- to wit:

  • One still and aparatus (sic) thereto sold for Forty two dollars & Fifty cents $42.50
  • One old still sold for Four dollars $4.00
  • One box sold for Two dollars $2.00
  • Three sheep (at large) sold for Seventy five cents .75
  • [Total] $49.25

Given under my hand this the 24th day of Sept, 1874 --- Thomas C. Rutherford Adm. of the estate of Isom Hall Decd.

Va Wise County to wit: The foregoing Sale bill of the Personal Property of Isom Hall Decd was this day admitted record -- Given under my hand this the 13th day of Jun 1875 --- Teste T. G. Wells Clk." and [6]

Hall-54306 and Hall-1278 are not ready to be merged because: Name is spelled differently but wife seems to match. Also, Greenway and Didema are listed as children. I don't want to merge until someone with more experience takes a look.
