Thomas Hall was born in North Carolina about 1780, probably in Iredell or Rowan County. He married Nancy Woods in Rowan County North Carolina on November 6, 1801. [1]Thomas' parents are unknown at this time. Some researchers believe that he was a brother to the James Hall that settled in Jackson County Alabama about 1820.

It is believed that Thomas moved his family to Rhea County Tennessee about 1820. He purchased land that is in Meigs County Tennessee today. The land was a portion of the Hiwassee District in the Armstrong Ferry and Garrison Bluff Area. He was a preacher and was one of the delegates for the Good Hope Baptist church in Big Spring, Tennessee in 1834. Records indicate that he performed many marriage ceremonies in Rhea County Tennessee. Elijah married Mary Phillips in 1834 and Joseph married Catherine Matlock in Rhea County Tennessee in 1821.
