Elisha was probably born between 1817 and 1829 (see Notes) in South Carolina, United States. He is the son of Henry Hall and Dicey (Driggers) Hall.
When his father died in 1844, Elisha was named as an heir. He received his portion of the estate Januray 21, 1848.[1]
In 1850, 26 year old Elisha lived in Barbour County, Alabama, United States with siblings Henry (age 33), Daniel (age 30), Martha (age 24), Eliza (age 13), William (age 10), and Emeline (age 8). His niece Patience Croty (shown as Cronley, age 19) also lived there.[2]
Elisha registered a land patent for 159.66 acres in the land office in Montgomery, Montgomery, Alabama, United States March 15, 1851.[3]
Elisha married Delilah Sheppard December 11, 1853 in Barbour County, Alabama, United States[4]
and they had at least nine children (see Notes).
In 1860, Elisha (age 31) and Delilah (age 21) lived in Dale County, Alabama, United States with their daughter Sarah (age 2). Delilah's parents (whose last name Sheppard was incorrectly shown as Shepherd) John (age 72) and Sarah (age 67) also lived with them, as well as Delilah's sister Sara Walding (age 27) and her children James R Walding (age 8), WW Walding (age 6), John B Walding (age 3), and newborn Elizabeth Walding. Elisha was a farmer and his father-in-law was a farm laborer. Elisha's sister Dicey lived next door and, just beyond her, was his brother Henry.[5]
Elisha was 47 years old and a farmer in Clopton, Alabama, United States when he enlisted as a Private in the Confederate Army. He served in Company B of the 3rd Battalion Reserves Infantry[10]
from 1864 to 1865.[7]
In 1880, Elisha (age 53) and Delilah (shown as Deliley, age 41) lived in Dale County, Alabama, United States with children Sarah (age 23), John (age 16), Martha (age 14), Decey (age 12), Mary (age 9), William (age 6), Simon (age 4), and Wesley (age 1). A boarder D Reynolds (age 18) also lived with the family. Elisha was a farmer and John was a laborer.[8]
July 12, 1899 Elisha applied for a military pension, based on his honorable discharge from Captain Littaker's company and being unable to make a living on account of old age.[7]
In 1900, 82 year old Elisha was widowed and living in Grant, Coffee, Alabama, United States in the home of his son William (age 26), daughter-in-law Docia (age 20), and their children Lillie (age 1) and newborn John. William was a farmer.[9]
