George W. was the 2nd of 12 children born to Joseph Hall and Emaline (Bird). He was a volunteer for the Confederacy with the 60th Georgia Infantry. He was a POW in Old Capitol Prison. He is said to have deserted to the Yankees in Virginia after being forced to carry heavy logs around camp on his shoulders. This was punishment for shooting wild turkeys (the soldiers were under orders not to shoot while on patrol) ordered by General Gordon. George reportedly refused to fight for the North but was not heard from again. Records document him at Old Capitol Prison in Washington D.C.
