Edward Marshall Hall was born 16 September in the Brighton registration district of Sussex. His mother's maiden surname was Sebright[1]. He was baptised 26 November 1858 at St Peter's Church in Brighton, Sussex. His parents were Alfred and Julia Elizabeth Hall of Old Steyne. Alfred's occupation was recorded as M.D.[2]
Early Years
In 1861 Edward, aged 2, was living with his parents and sisters in Steyne, Brighton, Sussex.[3]
In 1881 Edward was living in Hove, Sussex and studying as a Law Student at the Inner Temple and Cambridge[4]
Education and Occupations
Edward attended Rugby School. He worked as a Clerk in a tea merchant's office prior to entering St. John's College, Cambridge in 1877. He was called to the Bar in 1883 and practised in London and on the South Eastern Circuit and Sussex Sessions. [5]
Marriage and Children
Edward's first wife was Grace Ethel Moon, they were married in Hove, St Andrew, Sussex on 10 June 1882. Edward was a barrister-at-law, aged 23, and the son of Alfred Hall, a physician, Grace was aged 21 and the daughter of Henry Moon, deceased, who had also been a physician [6]
Edward and Henrietta Meta Margharita Kroeger, a German from Hamburg, were married in about 1896
In 1901 Edward and Henriette were living with their daughter Elna and several servants in Paddington, London. Edwards occupation was recorded as 'One of His Majestys Council'[8]
In 1911 Edward and Henrietta were living with Elna in Welbeck House in St Marylebone, London. They had been married for 15 years and had had one child Elna Mariella Victoria Hall who was living with them[9][10]
Death
Sir Edward Marshall-Hall died 24 February 1927 in the City of London, England[11]. He was buried in the Kent and Sussex Cemetery in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent[12]. [13]
