Ellen Hall was born in about 1840 in Lancashire, probably in Eccleston. She was the daughter of Thomas Hall and Margaret (Ranson) Hall.

By June 6th 1841, they were living with Margaret's parents in Eccleston, Lancashire; her father was working as a publican, and her brothers John, Thomas and James were wheelwrights. Thomas himself was an agricultural labourer.

Research Notes

Ellen may have died in infancy, because another Ellen Hall birth with mother's maiden name Ranson was registered in the last quarter of 1841 in Prescot district. However no death registration has been found for her in 1840-1, and the Ellen listed in the 1851 census for the family was aged 11.
